Looking back on this now, watching the first scene, all I can think is, "That guy doesn't die, it's Danny from CSI:NY!"

As for the first shots of the school, I'm still trying to figure out how the girls get away with those outfits. Yes, it's TV, and not reality, but even watching it when it first came out, it still threw me. Of course, I was a senior in HS at the time, if I remember correctly. That might have had something to do with it.

You know, watching the episode now, and assuming it was supposed to vaguely be a follow-up to the movie [don't knock, I adore it in all it's cheesy glory], I gotta wonder: Where's Pike?

There's this theory I have, nothing to do with the missing Pike, about why Cordy hates Buffy so much. It all starts in this episode. If you notice, the first time we see she's sharing her book with Buffy, and being all nice and kinda flirty. Next thing you know, we see Willow. As Willow walks away, you can see Buffy give her a look at could be described as infatuated or longing. Willow even does a little look back. This is how I choose to view this scene. I think it will make much of this show just a touch bit more interesting, don't you?

Looking back, it's amazing how young they all are! Even Giles, one of the two adults, seems so fresh and eager. They have no clue the shit they'll be going through. I still get a laugh out of the language used in the lockers scene. Speaking of which:

DANNY!!! Sorry, I know he's playing a different character, and therefor can be dead in this show, but I still laugh about it.

Now we're onto the direct Buffy and Willow flirting. Yes, I choose to view it as flirting. I blame hubby, who first mentioned this as a pairing, and now I can't get it out of my head. Anyway, anyone notice that Buffy cannot lie for anything? Reminds me a bit of Clark on Smallville. Makes you wonder how they keep things secret. Of course, as we're shown, Buffy really doesn't. Anyway, that's for future episodes. For now, we'll almost believe a teen can fall for the 'pepper spray is so just so passé' excuse.

In comes Cordy, and you see the jealousy coming off her in waves. And this, people, is the real reason that Cordy hates Buffy. Also, I fanwank that she had flirted with Willow in the past, and been rejected (although, not intentionally) by her. Care to join me in my world?

I do have a question, though, did anyone ever notice and report the broken door? It would have been kinda cute to hear about it in passing, maybe Flutie talking to the janitor about it as Buffy and co. passed them in the hallway? Yet again, I pause to scream out Danny! Sorry, can't seem to help myself.

You know, she says that Danny.. I'm sorry, the boy won't rise again, but isn't he listed for The Harvest? I could be wrong about that.

... more to come

... and finishing off

Now, I have a question; Giles gives the impression that they are unaware that Sunnydale is on top of a Hellmouth, yet, how would the watcher's council not have known about that? Oh well, I chalk it up to them being idiots and not sharing information when they have it.

Quote from: Buffy
"Oh, come on! This is Sunnydale! How bad an evil can there be here?"

You know, that's even funnier looking back after 7 seasons. Who knew the thing I would think was the most evil on the show would be Buffy herself? Not that I'm bitter, or anything.

Who let's there daughter buy and wear a pleather dress? Really. I choose to believe it was her father, because I like Joyce far too much to believe that of her. What I first liked about Joyce was her hair. It put me in mind of my mom's hair, and I really like my mom. Therefor, I decided early on, that Joyce was a good mother. Hey, we all have our reasons.

And let us now introduce Angel. How in the world did Buffy, a slayer, not sense he was a vampire? I'll give Angel a pass on not realizing that she was right above him given that he was just recently living off of rats, but I can't give her a pass in this instance. Also, given his comments, "Don't worry, I don't bite," You can see that Angel assumes that she sensed he was a vampire as well. Angel does get my award for best line of the episode with "I didn't say I was yours." Though, it's closely followed up by Willow's comments about her and Xander breaking up and why. Far too cute! Also, I point out more Buffy/Willow flirting. Just saying, it's there if you wanna see it!

Speaking of things there to see if you wanna see them, did anybody else wonder what other students would have thought had they seen Buffy and Giles up on the catwalk at the Bronze? It looked kinda skanky, if you had the volume down and had no idea what was going on in the scene. Just sayin'! And they're talking so loud around people about vampires. However, I'll give them a pass since it is a loud club. This time. And now Buffy's off to rescue her girlfriend friend! And she manages not to sense Darla, either. However, for the sake of my Buffy's Gay For Willow theory, I'll say it was because she was so focused on Willow.

That scene of the Master coming up out of the blood, how do you guys think that was done? Blue screen?

There is something so cute about Willow being lured away by the promise of a date at the ice cream bar! S6 or 7 Willow would have so kicked his butt, and Darla's too. To this day, I'm still wondering where Buffy keeps all her stakes. You always see her pull them out of basically thin air. Maybe she has custom holders that she has all over herself. It's the only explanation, especially given some of her outfits. Also, Angel's season 2 Darla would have so wiped the floor with this Buffy. Just sayin'.

The ending could have been far too cheesy, but it managed not to be. All in all, a pretty good episode, I'd say.

Quote from: Buffy
Are you sure? Now, this is not gonna be pretty. We're talking violence, strong language, adult content...

I am going to pretend I did not read this. I so do not need to think about Buffy lusting after Willow...Willow could do so much better.

It was one-sided, I'm sure.

BtW: James Spader in a kilt. It kinda makes my mind a safe place again.

You know what's weird, though? I am totally okay with the idea of Cordelia and Willow, even though I'm really not a fan of Cordelia...

Honestly, I could see Willow and Cordy together, at least before she was all demonized in AtS.
